Nodor Dart Boards

Nodor started out in 1919, manufacturing modeling clay. The company name was derived from the fact that the clay had “no odor.” They started producing their first dartboards in 1923, which were made using clay. The clay dartboards never caught on, and Nodor switched to making the traditional elm dartboards that were popular at the time.

It is during 1931 that one of the greatest innovations in dartboards came into being: the bristle dartboard. The idea had been suggested to the founder of Nodor by a local pub owner and after some refining, the two filed a patent for the dartboard. Four years later, the first bristle dartboard, the Nodor Original Bristle, hit the market.

Faced with rising costs of manufacturing and markets flooded with cheap imports, Nodor’s production facilities moved to Kenya in 1999 to ensure they could continue producing the highest quality boards at competitive prices. Nodor had always faced stiff competition from local rival dartboard manufacturer Winmau, but this came to an end in 2002 when Winmau was bought out by Nodor.

The Nodor dartboard selection is top notch, as you might expect from the company that brought the world its first bristle dartboard. All Nodor dart boards are made of the highest quality East African sisal, which is often used for some of the best marine ropes. Nodor was the the first company to offer a staple-free bullseye, with slanted edges to guide the dart into the target. The latest incarnation of this innovation, Supabull II, is found on all their boards.

The premium Nodor Supamatch dartboard is made to world tournament specifications. This board is completely staple-free, with angled wires to reduce bounce-outs.The Nodor Supawire dartboard has a thin triangular wiring system. Although not completely staple-free, the thin, angled wires and reduced staples will still help maximize your scores.

Rounding out the main lineup of dartboards is the Nodor Supabull II. This takes its name from the original staple-free bullseye wire first developed by Nodor.

Nodor also produces a number of specialist dart boards to complement their main offering. They produce a training board for professionals that features a half-size bull and reduced doubles and triples for hours of torture. Nodor also makes dartboards for older regional variations of the game, including boards designed for Yorkshire, London Wide Five, London Narrow Five, and Lincoln.

  1. Eric Johnson says:

I’ve had a Nodor “President” model dart board since the mid 1990’s. It still is in great condition, hasn’t loosened up at all. After almost 20 years, I only recently started to have any of the sisal “hairs” start to come out (and only maybe about 10 total in all).

Absolutely wonderful dartboard, I probably overpaid when I bought it (paid $99.00 US) in either 1995 or 1996, but it has stood the test of time. Have a friend who is desperate to find one of these, but the model is no longer made.

Just bought a week ago a Nodor suprawire dartboard here in Manila, Phils. at JB Sports in Alabang Town Center. The price is competitive with the other brands like Winmau and Unicorn. I just got interested in playing darts because it is a practical indoor sport or hobby and not expensive coz I don’t need to pay anything anymore everytime I play. Also, it’s already rainy season here in the Philippines, so I think it is one of the best indoor sport as it does not really need a partner.
