Without a doubt, the most important and understated aspect of playing darts is your nickname. All the top dart stars have one, so it’s imperative you get yourself one or else your averages will seriously suffer.

Normally, picking your own nickname is not acceptable, but for darts we are willing to make an exception if it matches your flair as a dartist. So with that mind, here are some ideas to help you pick your darting nickname, and maybe I can finally decide on mine.

Kings of Cricket

Oh, how I love to play cricket! Out of all the games you can play with darts, this is still my favorite. My friend, C, and I are so obsessed with playing cricket that we have mammoth tournaments of it. When we first became dart buddies, it started out as a best of five. Neither of us were quite happy with these quick matches, so we extended it so that each best of five victory scored one towards another best of five. In other words, a best of five of a best of five.

A work friend of mine recently bought his first house, and although he’s pretty new to playing darts, he couldn’t wait to set up his first dartboard. He asked me about buying a decent set of darts, and I found him a ridiculous deal on a set of Harrows Assassin darts on eBay–$15 for a set that usually sells for around $50 – $60. In hindsight, I should have snapped these up myself. They would have made an excellent set of “house” darts.
