A female colleague of mine wanted to know why darts is dominated by portly men and where are the girls? I told her to get down the pub on a darts night and there should be plenty of women playing. Darts is not just a sport for the men. Women are just as adept at tossing the tungsten, and I have played against many women, and many of the have been a lot better than me. Unfortunately, professional female darts players barely get a look compared to the men.

During my formative years growing up in England, I always found Sunday to be the dullest day of the week, especially when it came to the TV schedule. There was, however, a brief thirty-minute beacon of hope that became part of the nation’s Sunday ritual. It conveniently came on right after we had eaten the traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Well that was the tradition in our house, anyway. The show was called Bullseye, and it was the greatest game show ever created. It was also based around darts.

It was just over a week ago that the PDC World Matchplay tournament ended and the quality of the darts was some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The competition was tight and it was hard to call who would be in the final. Well, it was hard to pick one person who would be in the final; the other was a safe bet. It came as little surprise that the crown went to Phil “The Power” Taylor who absolutely destroyed Terry Jenkins in the final 18-4. This was Taylor’s unprecedented tenth World Matchplay title just another one to add to the bazillions he already has (I think he’s up to 54 major titles now).

I’ve been avoiding doing this post as you can read it on a million other dartboard sites, but I have a good friend who has just started playing and she’s been bugging me about setting up a dartboard at home. So this one is for you, Michelle.

It was a total coincidence, but since my last post, about how I wanted to play darts outside, I went on a weekend camping trip and ended up playing darts outside. Every year, we go up to a little campsite with my girlfriend’s family and have a weekend of beer drinking, cards, horseshoes, and other games. It’s a real redneck hootenanny!

As June is drawing to a close and July is quickly approaching, I’m starting to realize how little I’ve been playing darts recently. As much as I love my local pub, it has terrible air conditioning and there is no appeal to throwing a few arrows in that sweat box. Unfortunately, I live in a small apartment, and as I’m a conscientiousness tenant, I won’t mount my dartboard on any of the walls so I’m not practicing at home at the moment. On top of this, all my friends with dartboards are either on vacation or don’t want to be hanging around indoors when it’s so nice outside, and who can blame them?

I currently have an old friend visiting me from England, and during this first week of his trip, we have managed to sample the wares at more hostelries than I care to mention. We also managed to fit a few games of darts in our travels!

The PDC’s Premier League Darts has become the competition that boasts arguably the best players in the world. In its brief five-year existence, the cream of the darts world have battled for this coveted title. The 2009 season has been the most closely fought and, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining.

Without a doubt, the most important and understated aspect of playing darts is your nickname. All the top dart stars have one, so it’s imperative you get yourself one or else your averages will seriously suffer.
Normally, picking your own nickname is not acceptable, but for darts we are willing to make an exception if it matches your flair as a dartist. So with that mind, here are some ideas to help you pick your darting nickname, and maybe I can finally decide on mine.

Oh, how I love to play cricket! Out of all the games you can play with darts, this is still my favorite. My friend, C, and I are so obsessed with playing cricket that we have mammoth tournaments of it. When we first became dart buddies, it started out as a best of five. Neither of us were quite happy with these quick matches, so we extended it so that each best of five victory scored one towards another best of five. In other words, a best of five of a best of five.
